Many new designs are light, bright and airy, with stripes, and floral and animal motifs taking centre stage. Emily Bond’s dachshund-print fabric, for example, was inspired by, and modelled on, her own miniature dachshund George. Graphic designer Sarah Campbell-Lloyd’s new company, Pinch of Salt, offers fabrics decorated with abstract florals, geometric butterflies and prancing hares – all terribly spring-like.

Sanderson, which has been selling printed fabrics since 1921, has added a bold apple, pear and fig design to its vast collection. It comes in two colourways, with a cobalt or white background. Both are perfect for use in the kitchen.

Particularly striking is Lewis & Wood’s Peacock fabric, which features a 1970s Agnes Wimborne design, lost to history until it was uncovered secreted away in a printer’s loft. It is at once contemporary and classic and comes in three colourways: Rhone (a rich red), blue-green Frascati and Cava.

She may be best-known as a paint expert, but Annie Sloan – who, incidentally, has written 20 books on decoration – now also has a collection of 20 fabric designs, including stunning Flowers and Chickens prints. Utilising fabric from France and Belgium, she says the designs offer ‘a bit of boho chic, a bit of French, a bit of country and a bit of modern.’ A bit of everything, then.
