Review: Gazelli
Tucked away behind Holland Park tube, in a rather chi chi mews, in the exclusive and cavernous Josh Wood Atelier, you will find a plushly appointed treatment room that has been taken over by the new kids on the beauty block – Gazelli.
It was worth leaving the comfort of scruffy north London to find out what Gazelli, hailing all the way from Azerbaijan, is all about. All products contain White Oil, a natural resource that is unique to the volcanic region. Extracted from the mineral-rich soil, it has been used for centuries as a miracle rejuvenating cure for all sorts of skin complaints.
Researched and perfected by genetic scientist Dr Hamzayeva (now if a genetic scientist isn’t going to know how to make us look younger, then no one will!), the treatments on offer promise to improve the skin’s ability to regenerate itself and absorb nutrients and oxygen. After each treatment, your skin should retain moisture and regain youthful elasticity and health. Who could wish for more!
Greeted by very friendly staff, my beautician Sam takes my medical history and talks through my skin concerns, after which I am invited to get comfortable on a heated treatment bed for the Volcanic Mud Facial. She applies a gentle cleanser, a papaya peel, the volcanic mud mask and carries out a most pleasant shiatsu shoulder and arm massage. It’s the facial massage that I enjoy and benefit from the most –Sam gently manipulates my chin, eyebrows and cheeks and I can feel the stresses of the day literally drain away.
The products themselves seem very gentle in terms of aroma, with hints of rose and lemon. The papaya peel tingles just a little (nothing alarming) while the mud mask feels soothing, smoothing and very earthy. For my dark circles there is a rejuvenating eye cream that is worked in twice.
The treatments seem geared towards more mature skin (I’m fast approaching that bracket) but it’s safe to say that we could all do with a boost to our tired and thirsty skin and harried souls. At the end, I felt that my skin had been stimulated and revitalised, leaving it looking refreshed and glowing. Good thing, then, that Holland Park is a little closer to most of us than Azerbaijan!
