Armand Beasley's latest beauty advice

Tom Parker Bowles, the food critic and son of Queen Camilla, has writtena fascinating book about what the royal family have eaten since Victorian times – and shares recipes for three of their favourite dishes in the latest issue of the Lady. One of those dishes is Oeufs Suzette.

Spring is around the corner, and with it a fresh perspective on colour as beauty brands prepare to launch their new collections. Last year there was a focus on an ‘extreme glass’ look – a high-shine finish to the skin – whereas for 2025 the emphasis is on a more satin appearance, as seen at Miu Miu’s spring show.

There was a strong 1980s influence last year, with neon make-up proving popular, especially for the eyes. That seems to have taken a back seat this year with a more stripped-back 1990s approach, but with bold accents to either eyes or lips.

I still think that metallic tones and subtle shimmers are flattering on the eyes, just ease off on heavy under-eye shadows and liners. Keep the under-eye clean with either bare lower lashes or perhaps embrace the ‘doll eye’ trend and opt for spiky top and bottom lashes, as seen at the Harris Reed spring summer show.

Dramatic matte lip colours were very popular during winter, but you can pop them away now and reach for clear or coloured lip oils, which are glitter-free and less sticky than glosses. Try and go for petroleum-free oils, as they are better for the lips as well as the planet.

Berry, cherry and warm apricot blushers will also be popular this year, and it’s up to you where you want to use them: the apples of the cheeks for a hint of colour or a bold sweep from the temples in a ‘c’ shape that skims across the cheekbones. Add the same colour to your lips and then apply your lip oil over the top.

This year also heralds two new ‘colours of the year’, according to the global trend forecaster WGSN. The first is Future Dusk, a striking, moody blue that has a touch of cobalt about it. Meanwhile, Pantone’s favourite is Mocha Mousse, a ‘warming brown hue’ that sits its indulgent self between chocolate and coffee. Expect to see both of these shades in eyeshadows, eyeliners and clothes. We saw a bold use of rich navy blue make-up on the catwalk for the spring 2025 Tove collection at London Fashion Week last year.

To help give you a little inspiration I’ve chosen three products that will give you a touch of spring 2025 while still feeling like you.

Three to try

Hildun Beauty Mythical Romance Luxe Eyeshadow Quad, £22

A stunning collection of four easy-to-blend shadows. My tip would be to press the nude shade all over the eye, followed by the shimmering pink over the moveable part of the lid. The burgundy tone either goes into the crease at the outer edge of the eye or along the lash line. Then apply the golden shimmer at the inner corner and along the bottom lashes, plus two coats of mascara.

This new shade is a welcome edition to the range. It’s a pretty universal shade that is flattering on everyone, as it has colour but doesn’t dominate. The oil contains several nourishing ingredients, such as avocado, apricot and jojoba, to help nourish the lips, and can be used on its own for a light slick of colour or over the top of lipstick for a bolder look.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Chaos, £20

I absolutely love this shade of blue. Use it on the waterline to give a waterproof flash of colour to the eyes, or apply a bold line to the top lash line only and smudge in the creamy formulation on application for a slightly grungy effect. Once it has set it is pretty much smudge-proof. Besides this striking blue, there is an excellent choice of other colours, from more conservative shades to metallic gold and neon green. They are all made with at least 50% hydrating ingredients, such as jojoba oil.
