Some of the best 20thcentury designers have made it their mission to come up with designs for small, portable seating. In 1960, the office of Charles and Ray Eames was commissioned by Time Inc to make stools for the lobbies of the Rockefeller Centre in New York – these solid, turned walnut seats are still in production. In 1958, Norman Cherner designed moulded plywood stools that are just as popular in today's modern kitchens. Both these models are stocked in the London showroom of twentytwentyone.
To make it easier on yourself, why not visit the Made In Design website – it represents top furniture designers – and make your selection from its wonderful range of stools. And, regardless of what you order, the carriage charge is only £4.90 for standard delivery.
However, if you would like a more decorative stool for the drawing room, Clock House Furniture upholsters bespoke stools in 26 different designs – they range from contemporary to antiquestyle models and come in a variety of sizes.
Lastly, should you need help with your posture, check out the stools on Shape Posture Seating's website – listed under Saddle Stools & Sit-Stand – or, even better, visit its showroom to make sure you choose exactly the right model to give you support and comfort.
