MY GRANDMA’S REMEDIES: NUTS

The column where Melonie Clarke shares her grandmother’s health wisdom
A handful of nuts can be the perfect, guilt-free snack. There is plenty of choice and different types of nuts have a variety of health benefits.

The cold weather can be damaging to your skin, so it is important to maintain good levels of vitamin E in winter.

Almonds are a beneficial source of this vitamin, and they are also calcium-rich, which is essential for building strong bones. Almonds mixed with natural yogurt, fruit and a dash of honey combine to make a delicious and healthy breakfast.

Unlike most other nuts, chestnuts have a low calorie count. They are also rich in vitamin C, which is excellent for ghting colds in winter. Pistachios are high in vitamin B6, and they are great for keeping your hormones well balanced. They also contain plenty of antioxidants, especially lutein and zeaxanthin, which help to keep your eyes healthy.
